    after installing update just get a gnu grub screen

    Hello i am new to Linux and stuck on a problem. i installed ubuntu 12.10 and everything seemed fine. it then alerted me that there was 200 plus updates that needed to install, i installed them it told me it needed to reboot. when the laptop restarted now all i get is a gnu grub version 2.00-7ubuntu11 screen.

    please help me i don't know what to do next

    Are you saying that you do not get any menu options on that grub screen? Does it not say 'Grub Rescue?'

    You also need to give more information about your system. Is Ubuntu the only OS on it?

    I ask these things because on the basis of the information that you give the only advice I can offer is to re-install Ubuntu.

    sorry it is the only thing on this machine no other os's. all the screen says is

    gnu grub version 2.00-7ubuntu11
    minimal BASH-like editing is supported. for the first word, TAB lists possible command completeions.

    i have already had this issue once and i reinstalled ubuntu and when it did the updates and rebooted i get the for the second time
