All,

I read the "before-you-post" sticky thread in this forum, so I post this with trepidation. If this is OT, I apologize in advance. The question hung out unanswered for a month in the General Questions area, so I thought I would post where people with a more technical bent hang out.

I am wondering whether in the Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS server environment the correct tool to use to set up a new service is chkconfig or update-rc.d. Both tools seem to automate the creation of symlinks in the /etc/rc0-9.d directories, but chkconfig seems to be a little more aware of upstart methodology. Any preferred tool or are both equivalent?

Thanks.
