Question Problem loading Team Fortress 2

I installed steam on ubuntu but every time it opens a window pops up called "Package Install" and it says:

Steam needs to install these additional packages:
    libgl1-mesa-dri:i386, libgl1-mesa-glx:i386
    [sudo] password for edenapple:
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    libgl1-mesa-glx : Depends: libglapi-mesa (= 8.0.4-0ubuntu0.3)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
    Press return to continue:

When I press enter steam loads, but when I try to open Team Fortress 2 it says:
"Required OpenGL extension "GL_EXT_texture_compression_s3tc" is not supported. Please install S3TC texture support."

Which Ubuntu version are you running?

Have you tried to install the missing dependencies manually?

My ubuntu version is 20.04 LTS and I tried searching for the missing dependencies and installing them but it says "Breaks existing package 'libglapl-mesa-lts-quanta' conflict: libglapl-mesa ()".

I assume you mean Ubuntu 12.04, since we're not yet in the year 2020.

Have you tried: sudo apt-get install -f ??

Re: Problem loading Team Fortress 2

    Have you tried:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
That does not upgrade to a different distribution (unless you changed your sources.list) it is just smarter about resolving changing dependencies for your current Ubuntu version.

Or if you are running 64-bit, maybe you need to install ia32-libs-multiarch. Steam is 32-bit and I already had that installed when installing Steam beta a couple of weeks ago (since updated to release). Also what video card and driver do you have, because they recommend running most recent (experimental) drivers, at least for my nvidia.

I have been running tf2 in 64-bit 12.04 since late January.
    i5 650 3.2 GHz upgraded to i7 870, 16 GB 1333 RAM, nvidia GTX 1060, 32" 1080p & assorted older computers

This is a problem with your graphics card. I assume you're using an AMD card, because most people getting this error are (including me). You will have to update to the newest fglrx by downloading the driver from AMD's website and installing it yourself. Here is a link with instructions:
