    networking n00b and so confused

ok guys i'm still really new to ubuntu so please keep it simple but
im attempting to get an open network going between my laptop 12.10 connected via wlan and my old desktop 12.04 via lan and my Samsung galaxy tab android connected via wlan (last one would be nice but i don't need it) so that i can use the desktop to run media on my tv and whatever else i want to share ideally i would like it to just be a folder on the desktop that all of the computers could see

both computers have samba on them (not even sure wth it is but w/e)
if i could get a step by step on this that would be great

samba is a file type that windows OS can read it is slow but works with most
computer systems. open a file browser in ubuntu and right click a file you want to share. open property's click share and follow directions and let us know if you need more help

on the second ubuntu computer open file folder in the upper left then on the bottom left you should see
browse network then after it scans the network you should be able to see the file you shared on the first computer
