    12.04 unable to install

    Hello,

I've been trying to reinstall Ubuntu Server 12.04 on a Dell desktop, all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore.

Everytime I got to the step where you have to put in your hostname, and when you do, you just get a purple screen instead of filling in you full name.

I've taken an OTHER server, tried to install, same problem.

    Reburnt the disc, same problem.

I'm using an USB cd drive.

Please help me with this problem, it's killing me

If this purple screen is during the install process, thats normal. Give it several minutes.

I have had that purple screen for 10+ minutes when doing a virtual (VM) install.

    I gave it a night.....

Sometimes it works, after aborting the hostname and going straight to the partitioning.

And then the screens pops up after 3 - 4 seconds..

    Ok, weird

Did you do a checksum, check CD and burn at low speed?

Try the basic install option. Still the same?

I swear to jesus, buddha and krishna that I've tried everything I could think of.

I turned on no apic and stuff, I've tried to run it in rescue mode. I just don't know what to do, is there a way to wipe everything on all drives?

EDIT: Have been waiting right now for about 20 min, nothing yet.

How bout trying a USB (thumb drive) install. It may be your CD drive giving you grief.

    http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

And you can wipe the drive, but I don't see that helping any.

Still, the same problem. I'm going to partition my disks first

This is simply horrible, there is no way to install this. This is seriously the buggiest installation I have ever laid my eyes on.

Even when I choose to go back at the step where you have to put in your hostname, It freezes.

    I'm very disappointed
