    Question 12.04.1 boot weird issue

    Hi,

    Running 64bit ubuntu 12.04.1 on asus A53s.

Whenever I powerup the laptop for the first time, and go to ubuntu from the grub menu, Ubuntu boots but it only loads the mouse icon in the middle of the screen, then all I see is the mouse (which I can't move) and the background is terminal output.

Then I hit ctrl+alt+f1 to drop to a cli interface and try logging in, but it doesn't accept my password.

So it only fixes itself when I reboot hitting ctrl+alt+delete then ubuntu loads correctly. (meaning I see the purple boot splash, mouse, and desktop)

    Why does this happen?

Does anyone else face this issue?

This is the first time I've ever come across this, been using ubuntu since 7.04.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's called a beta release for a reason. Not for noobs

    Try installing this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair
and post the url of the pastebin link given by the program.

That will give a good analysis of what is going on, and how your system is set up.

=================== Final advice in case of recommended repair

The boot files of [The OS now in use - Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS] are far from the start of the disk. Your BIOS may not detect them. You may want to retry after creating a /boot partition (EXT4, >200MB, start of the disk). This can be performed via tools such as gParted. Then select this partition via the [Separate /boot partition:] option of [Boot Repair]. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootPartition)

    =================== Default settings
    Recommended-Repair
This setting would reinstall the grub2 of sda3 into the MBR of sda.
Grub-efi would not be selected by default because: no-win-efi
Additional repair would be performed: unhide-bootmenu-10s

=================== Settings chosen by the user
    Boot-Info
This setting will not act on the MBR.

It's called a beta release for a reason. Not for noobs
