    1.

It was sda1, it means number 1.

After you select it there should be the Backup BS option to select, like those instructions say.

And yes, grub-install /dev/sda (not /dev/hda) would be the correct command but that only works from an installed system.

If you are doing repair from ubuntu live mod,e it's slightly different.

I followed the directions and the backupBS was there. I got to the 7th screen and typed y.

    This was the result

    Code:
TestDisk 6.13, Data Recovery Utility, November 2011
    Christophe GRENIER <grenier@cgsecurity.org>
    http://www.cgsecurity.org

    Disk /dev/sda - 1000 GB / 931 GiB - CHS 121601 255 63
Partition Start End Size in sectors
     1 * HPFS - NTFS 0 32 33 12 223 19 204800 [System Reserved]

    Boot sector
    Status: OK

    Backup boot sector
    Status: OK

    Sectors are identical.

A valid NTFS Boot sector must be present in order to access
any data; even if the partition is not bootable.

     [ Quit ] >[ List ] [Rebuild BS] [Repair MFT] [ Dump ]
I rebooted. Still nothing changed, the grub menu popped up and there was no windows option. So I'm going to have to find a win7 repair disk. Unless there are any other ideas?

Thank you guys so much for your time.

Wouldn't /dev/hda work (if I'm not mistaken, /dev/hda is the first harddisk)?

ACTUALLY IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU DARKOD

..... the first time i had forgotten to update grub before rebooting so the menu didnt display windows. I would have never gotten this done without you guys.

I didn't expect to have two working solutions by now. This forum is amazing!

The use of "h" has been depreciated for some time in linux as far a grub goes, I believe this changed 2008-9 not sure.

@ OP Yay, glad you got it sorted!
I knew darkod would have the answer!
