12.04 alt manual full disk encryption

i noticed 12.10 and 12.04 alt let you do full disk encryption... i would like to use this feature but i do not want to encrypt the entire disk, i would like to partition half of my disk and install ubuntu on the first partition with preboot encryption and have the 2nd half of my disk unpartitioned, is this possible? can someone explain how to achieve this using 12.04 alt? thanks

Yes, it is possible. In the alternate install menu when it's letting you set up encrypted partitions, it will ask how much of the disk to use for encryption (or what percentage of the disk).
