    Unknown Strange Private-PPA. What is it ??

    There is a weird ppa in my Software Sources, which I certainly did not add myself.

    https://myname-9:OXFdSg3rDjjdSNWTqWR...auncher/ubuntu quantal main
    Ditto for Source Code.
    EDIT: I did not expect it to be a link, the '......' part left out is:
    WR..."n@private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/create-l"...auncher

    The "myname" is my actual name, not my 'username'.
    Can some one please tell me what this is??

    I am very wary, as I have recently had a lot of Scams, addressed to my e-mail name, purporting to be from Amazon.com, The US Post-Office, Facebook, etc.

    As It involves launchpad.net, could it be in connection with a subscription to a bug report ?

    Chao!, bogan.

    It does seem weird, I just fired up a Qubes OS live session and followed the link but cant get much from it, I would advise you to remove the line from your sources, you can always add it back in if its legit

    Do you have a launchpad account? If so, log in to Launchpad, click on your name and click recent activities. You might see something there that reminds you of something.

    I have been trying to find that ppa in Launchpad. No results for everything I tried.

    Oh, you might want to think about using ppa purge. If you really want to get rid of the stuff that the ppa brought in.

    Regards.

    Hi!, CaptainMark,

    Thanks for the response,

    I edited out my name in the link, so I would not expect it to work.

    @grahammechanical,

    I will try your suggestion, thanks.

    Edit: Is there anyway to find out what -if anything - the ppa has brought in ??

    Chao!, bogan.

    No, nothing like that.

    The only unusual thing - apart from the Phishing Scams - was that I got an e-mail from Launchpad, after subscribing to a Bug report. I assumed that was normal, although it is the first time I got one.

    The Launchpad page should indicate what packages are included and a description if you can access it.

    You must have downloaded the app create-launcher.
    Even though it's free you have to go through the USC buy process and sign in.

    Yes, in Synaptic you can click on 'origin' and get a list of packages in whatever source you select from the list.

    Re: Unknown Strange Private-PPA. What is it ??

    @stinkeye & sgage,

    You were both correct.

    Synaptic>Origin showed a 'normal ppa', without all the prefixed ID data etc:

    LP-PPA-commercial-ppa-uploaders-create-launcher/quantal
    Clicking on that showed just 'create-launcher' v 1.3 as installed from that origin.

    I have no memory of having installed it, perhaps it was called by something else.

    So, 'Solved' and panic stations closed. Thanks for all the responses.
