What printer do you have?
In my experience, HP has the best support for Linux. Almost all HP models are supported. If you have anything specific in mind then run that model number in the forum search and see if any issues were reported.
...my two cents
One negative report: I am using a Samsung laser printer (CLP 300). There is a foomatic driver for it, but the quality, in particular the colours, are pretty crappy. In Windows it is acceptable.
There are allegedly Samsung Linux drivers, but I haven't had any joy installing them.
