    USB web cam

I have an old webcam from a company called AIPTEK called "HyperVcam" It plugs into the USB socket and its power light comes on and seems to be recognised by lsusb. Is there anything else I should try to get this working in Ubuntu 12.04. So far tried on an Asus X50RL laptop but intend to use it with a modern desktop in the future. Thanks

    You can install 'cheese'
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install cheese

I ran the terminal script and installed Cheese but no obvious effect. What is the application 'Cheese' for?

Cheese is a webcam app and will let you know if your cam is working or seen by the OS.
To err is human - and to blame it on a computer is even more so.

    Re: USB web cam

Cheese seems to work fine and shows what the camera is getting so everything is ok so far.
If I launch Skype there is no sign of an image and not a lot of help in the options. Selecting the video device section (under Options) there are a few tick boxes and a box to select the video device which is preselected to the device I have proven works with 'Cheese'. However, even if this box is highlighted when I click on 'apply' the vedeo section is stil unresponsive. Is there an alternative to skype that I can try for ubuntu? Thanks.
