12.04 not visible on Windows 8 network

Don't know about Win8 but in earlier Windows versions there was a "Run" option in the menu and when selected you could do one of these:

\\maverick-N68S3
\\maverick-N68S3.local
\\192.168.0.100

And the file manager would launch to that location.

EDIT: Looks like Win8 obfuscates the Run command just like Win7 did. Hit the Windows key and R and the run command should open. THe other method of starting it is here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/zxue/archive...n-command.aspx

Thank you! Windows key + R loaded it up. I can connect with the IP address but neither of the others. Looks like I've at least got a temp fix now; thanks a lot!

Marking thread as solved; I created a desktop shortcut using the IP address. Not sure what happened with the original way but this works just as well. Thanks!
