    Constant complete freezes on 12.04

I have a thinkpad w520 and just installed 12.04 on it alongside windows 7. I had 12.10 before this, and before that 11.04. Though I haven't really used linux very much besides for programming for school.

I just installed 12.04, and haven't done anything except for install vlc, chromium, and compiz settings manager. The system consistently freezes a few minutes in to login. It doesn't seem to be linked to any specific action. I've been REISUB'ing whenever it happens.

I doubt its memory since I have 12gb of ram and I got the 64 bit version. Could it be the graphics drivers? I have a Nvidia quadro 1000m and I've had issues with optimus (though nothing this serious or consistent) in the past. Any ideas? Thanks for any help in advance .
