Question Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS or Quantal Quetzal 12.10?

I currently have Quantal Quatzal 12.10 but I'm wondering if I should switch to Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS...I heard 12.10 was less stable and more things are available for 12.04. Also, why is 12.04 being supported longer than 12.10, I don't understand why there are LTS ones and newer ones aren't LTS, unless 12.10 is like some sort of "beta"...Thanks

12.04 might be a little more stable because it has been made more conservatively, but unless you are having trouble with 12.10 there is no need to downgrade.

12.04 is supported for 5 years, for businesses using Ubuntu. Individuals usually prefer to stick with the latest release, which is not "beta" but just a little more experimental as it will only be supported for 18 months. The longer support time for LTS is for businesses. You, as a regular user, would not want to stay on 12.04 for five years as everything would be old and crusty by that point.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

    This may be helpful:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS

I maintain 40+ individual PC's spread across two counties so I keep most of them running the LTS versions. Otherwise it would be nearly a full time job just keeping them all up to date every six months

If you don't like upgrading, go with 12.04/LTS. If you would rather upgrade for every release to take advantage of newer software, use 12.10.
Personally, I like rolling release distros (I'm running Debian sid).

I have been using Ubuntu 12.04 and sometimes I also have same your question. Should I continue to using 12.04 or upgrade to 12.10? (And 13.04 will be released ).
Although 12.04 version is supported up to 5 years but 5 years later, when I want to upgrade my Ubuntu, that is very serious! The best way is installing Ubuntu again
So in my opinion, you should upgrade Ubuntu to 12.10 .

    Hi friends,

I have had the Same question,
When 12.10 came out it was indeed not so stable as 12.04, but now it works wonderfully,
I do have Ubuntu installed on 2 desktop and 1 laptop, and it works really fine. The only big difference
for me is the fact that I can not use NVidia drivers on 12.10, but the open sorce of X-Org works fine.

    All the best

Re: Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS or Quantal Quetzal 12.10?

    It depends on your style

I'm pretty lazy, and hate updating OSs. So I stick with LTS. I just made the jump from 10.04 to 12.04 a couple weeks ago.

I also take the approach that if it ain't broken don't fix it. I also don't believe in reinventing wheels. The changes are often not significant.

Updating invariably wastes a number of hours that I'd rather not spend wasting. Then there is a week or so of finding things that need to be changed or replaced, and me often just reverting to my old OS so I can just get things done, without solving any new problems. A transitional period...

That said, the transition from 10.04 to 12.04 went pretty smoothly.

I also use Xubuntu on my Desktop, which has a shorter LTS period than the current LTS 12.04 standard Ubuntu.
    Xubuntu 12.04 -64bit

For me having a newer nvidia card, I was forced to use 12.10 . Couldn't even get the 12.04 disk to boot my graphics card works out of the box with 12.10
