Thumbs down Battery Icon on Gnome Panel Not Showing

I'm running Gnome Shell (Gnome 3.4.2) on Ubuntu 12.04 (64 bit). I can't figure out why I can't change the Power setting so that the battery icon on the status bar will show. If I change the setting under Power settings for "Show battery status in the menu bar," the setting does not save: whenever I re-enter Power settings, the setting is still blank.

I'm not sure why this is. None of the Gnome extensions from extensions.gnome.org work either.

I can't seem to find anyone else on the Internet with this specific problem. Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?

Hey there! Did you solve this? I'm having the same problem in Kali Linux with that same Gnome version.

    No, I don't think I did, sorry.
