    I would compare dmesg from a boot where you have 2GB and a boot where you have 6GB. So the next time you boot, check the mem, and if you have 2GB, save the dmesg:

    Then, boot until you have 6GB, and grab that dmesg:

    Then, check out the differences. (I would say to use diff utility, but that may be misleading).

    It looks like the BIOS isn't reporting the full memory map in the 2GB example. It lacks the line:

    I'm not sure what that means (suspecting a buggy BIOS).

    Another idea: try turning off the "Xfast RAM" in your BIOS/UEFI
