I have a 1Ghz G4 PowerBook which runs as a home server. I'm thinking about recompiling the kernel to remove SMP as I heard that it may be a bit of a performance hit on single processor units. Is it worth it? Anything else I could do to improve performance?

It's not that bad actually, just would like to push it to its limits. On top of that, does the G4 support KVM? I found a PowerPC page on KVM's website and it only mentions the 440. Virtualization would be nice.

Thanks a lot in advance.
