    Network admin for beginner

I am a teacher and want to learn how to manage a class-sized network. I know zero about the topic and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to start learning. Perhaps a book, or a URL...

I mostly use OS X, but the machines are so expensive so I want to check out the Linux world for education. I see there is an Edubuntu project in progress. I have used Kubuntu in the past.

Anyway, I do a little python scripting, can navigate around in the terminal, and use LaTeX extensively - just to give a sense of my skill level. Again, I know nothing about network administration. I want to be able to set up file sharing, add software to student's computers efficiently, manage updates, and probably many ideas I'll learn along the way.

    Advice?

There is quite some information available on the internet. If you are looking for books, here is one to be read online:

This book can also be bought from the publisher.
