    A place for general feedback?

Is there an appropriate place to post feedback about Ubuntu that is tied to more than a single technical issue --- specifically, the shock and bewilderment of a long-time Ubuntu user who recently switched from 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS and feels like his whole world has been turned upside down?

    Thanks in advance.

Nope. Try Forum Feedback & Help, but sounds like you probably want Testimonials & Experiences.

Be aware, neither of these sub-forums are for technical help.

    Have you tried Gnome Classic?

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
    And this is new

If you have constructive suggestions/ideas for Ubuntu, you can post them here: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/

"What's up with the new interface???" has been the most frequently-asked question on these forums over the past couple of years, so you're basically beating a dead horse. Ubuntu is proud of their new Unity interface, it is the future of the project (at least until they come up with something better in a year or two---Ubuntu is a fast-moving, constantly-changing project by design and intention; the people who work there see themselves as innovators).

    Dr Kayak
You may wish to take a look at Xubuntu 12.04 (XFCE - LTS). It's easily configurable and IMHO very similar to 10.04. I've found it to be just as stable and user friendly with an emphasis on configuration. Just dump the dock and setup your desktop to duplicate 10.04.

IMHO all the new Ubuntu release bickering and arguing has solved nothing, except to potentially isolate users. Instead, might I suggest one simply seek a Linux alternative that best meets their needs and expectations.

With all the available options, there's no reason to get frustrated or argue over one choice. I believe that is one of the true benefits of Linux - CHOICE.

    Good Luck

And to be fair to yourself, you really should give unity a fair trial...run it for a week, with a positive attitude about trying something a bit different then what you were use to on 10.04...

It's actually very easy and intuitive to use! True, it doesn't have much customization available but i don't know why there is always this "thing" about customization...users of windows and mac don't worry about that...

Think of the unity dock bar as a "shortcut taskbar" and put all your favorites and frequently used apps on it for quick 1 click access..that is how i use it...

On the rare occasion that you need some other app, quick search in the "dash" on top will bring it right up!

When i started using, i didn't think i'd like it either, but within a week i found it REALLY NICE to use...

And i find it to be a lot easier to use and so much more intuitive then windows 8....nothing wrong with a new, more modern interface...

Good advice on Unity. Being configurable is a huge drawing card to linux, my guess. It is for me.

I couldn't agree more. Which is probably why I haven't used Windows or Mac for years.

However, the concept that Ubuntu/Linux users need to be more like Windows users - seems logical. They could make Ubuntu a plain vanilla packaged PC with fixed functionality. No need for customization or setup (etc.). Basically, a mini Windows clone. Especially, if one could get supported hardware. Sounds good.

Why should or would anyone worry about customization - if the only offering is a one size fits all. That idea could have merit for future Ubuntu users.
