    Gimp or Inkscape and artwork

Sorry for being new with free and open art programs like gimp and inkscape,
my question is, what kind of copyrights i can set for my artwork that i create with gimp or inkscape.

If i use these two free programs, and create an artwork for web,
then is it then, so, that i have to set my web artwork, for everyone elses free use too ?

Is this totally too noob gimp and inkscape artwork question ?

No. You have no obligation to make your artwork free. You can do what ever you like with your creations.

There are no limitations on Gimp or Inkscape. What you produce provided its your own original work is yours.

You own the copyright. You can sell it commercially if you want, or give it away or anything in-between, Its up to you.

This part of the licence applies to "derivative works" which are other programs that use source from the original software. It doesn't apply to things you produce using the software (otherwise, everything done on Linux would be free...).

The above post are correct. What ever you create using GIMP and/or Inkscape is completely yours and yours alone. You can do what ever you wish to do with. That being said. Check out http://creativecommons.org website to help you with licensing your artwork. This can help protect your work and your rights as an artist.
