    Malware currently attacking windows/linux

    Just got this notice. It's been around since Thursday. I had one blip today where my browser just froze and I had to reboot. I'm not sure if this is on topic but it poses a good question as to how secure our systems are during testing. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-...java-software/

    @kuvanito, I went the site you linked to in Firefox, and at the top of the page, it asks to install a missing java plugin.

    AFAIK, java and javascript are two different things and unrelated things

    And gnome-shell is written in javascript, should I avoid using gnome-shell?

    I neither have the java plugin installed no do I have 'java' enabled in my browser. Two different things? There was this program 'S' like a snake .. I ferget ... it was a javascript protector .. it was in the security discussions.

    Oh w3ll.. looks like not too many are concerned about security threats to linux. Maybe that's a good thing.

    Re: Malware currently attacking windows/linux

    I'm far from being a security guru but I was curious so I ran "java -version":

    Code:
    lance@lance-desktop:~$ java -version
    The program 'java' can be found in the following packages:
     * default-jre
     * gcj-4.6-jre-headless
     * openjdk-6-jre-headless
     * gcj-4.5-jre-headless
     * openjdk-7-jre-headless
    Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package>
    NO! I don't want to install it, just checking thanks

    Then I saw this at WebUpd8 this AM:

    http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/oracl...7u11.html#more

    But I'd bet that Canonical will have updates available pronto for those who do have it installed
