missing ramdisk

for a while now when ever i try and make a live usb i keep getting

/dev/ramdisk missing

im not sure why it started but im thinking it started after a update sometime back. i get the same thing on 10.04 and 11.10 and it dont matter which ISO i try with i get the same thing. i was thinking i had a bad thumb drive so i bought a new one and get the same thing.
any ideas on what may be wrong?

ok not sure why but i just downloaded 12.04 using firefox and put it on a new 8 gig thumb drive and it works. i guess instead of using google chrome or opera i need to use firefox.
this is one of them things that make you scratch your head and go HMMMMMMMMM
