Question Newly installed Lubuntu, blank screen shows up after boot animation

    Hi,

I'm new to Lubuntu, and Linux in general.

I just did a fresh install of Lubuntu using the alternate .iso for low-RAM PCs on an old laptop.

    Specs:
    1.6Ghz Intel Centrino processor
    256 MB RAM
    60 GB hard drive
    Onboard Intel GPU

After the installation completed, I proceeded to do the first boot.
The Lubuntu logo and the dots appeared and then the display just went black.
I tried holding the power button down and that shut the machine down.
When I booted it again, the same thing happened.

    What do I do?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

If you press CTRL+ALT+F1 does it bring you to a screen where you can log in in a console?

    Nope, it's not doing that.

What the the exact specs of the laptop? (Make and model are fine if it's stock)

Which alternate did you install? The Standard 32-Bit?

Did you install from a CD? Did it install completely with no problems?

Sometimes there are hardware compatibility issues that can arise if you're using a version of the kernel way newer or meant to be run on a more "modern" machine. (12.10 runs great on my 3 year old laptop but not my 1-year old netbook... so it's not always the case.)

    It's an Acer Travelmate 4020

I downloaded the .iso associated with this:

    Yeah, 32 bit.

I installed off of a USB drive by using UNetbootin.
    Yes, it installed completely.
Do you think I should install it again?

If not, then what can I do?
