Windows Controls Ubuntu Volume?
I am currently dual-booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.10. I have an Alienware m17x, which has two hard drive bays so I'm using one hard drive for each OS. I've found that when I reboot from Windows to Ubuntu, my sound in Ubuntu is entirely dependent upon my last volume in Windows. For instance, if I restarted after muting Windows, Ubuntu outputs no sound even at 100% volume no matter what I do. If I restart with my volume at 25%, then Ubuntu at 100% sounds like 25%. This seems incredibly strange to me. Can someone explain why this happens or how to fix it? The constant restarts just to have normal sound is a pain.
(FYI, I'm totally new to this so I'm sorry if I sound stupid or if this is a stupid question.)
