No longer boots after trying to partition- going over to the dark side

After 2 years of running Ubuntu I am about to format my drive to install Windows XP to run Ableton Live. I have tried Jack audio first but after a week of messing around trying to get my UA-4fx to work with Jack Audio, I scrapped that. I was hoping to dual boot Ubuntu 12 but when I tried to begin to format my partition using my old Ubuntu 11 live CD , fdisk failed.

"error creating partition table" with a bunch of the output that I didn't copy and paste because I had not setup internet on the machine.

gparted now read everything as unallocated space. Could no longer mount my harddrive. Rebooted hoping to get to Ubuntu. and that totally failed

Not going to bother with trying to dual boot now, just windows xp.
Maybe I'll try later after I get frustrated with Windows again.

    Peace.
