ubuntu 12.10 hangs boot time cups

I have a desktop running Mint 13 without problem. The same desktop before was using Ubuntu 12.04.

After looking at Ubuntu 12.10 I did a install on a separate partition.

The system hangs (boot time) when the cups daemon is started (do not complete).

Strangely enough the same system works very well in live mode (I was able to print a test page on my printer).

I did a test on Mint14 (based on Ubuntu 12.10), installed on a different partition, and I did get the same result (hanging at boot time).

Anybody ?

can you boot into recovery mode from start up options?
I would try to recover broken packages, or goto a root shell, and have a look at dmesg, and the /var/syslog also try disabling cups from being run at boot, if it doesnt get fixed after trying to repair broken pakages.
use chkconfig to disable services

# chkconfig cups off

if you dont see the recovery mode on startup, try hitting esc or tab, and opting into run level 3.
post back if you are able to get into a root shell.

Solved.

I did not install a boot manager with Ubuntu 12.10 and used Mint 13 boot manager (dual boot between Mint 13 and 12.10).

grub-mkconfig running under Mint 13 discovered Ubuntu 12.10 but definition for 12.10 (grub.cfg Mint13) was wrong. (generic kernel) and made booting impossible
