I wasn't trying to discuss ideology in my earlier thread - it was just a point; while closing it may have been justified, closing it without giving a proper response was not.

I for one have no problem with names. I wouldn't mind an Ubuntu Stinky Feet Edition if such a distro came about. As long as the ideology of Stinkfoot wasn't discussed.

This was the point I was trying to make. Stinky Feet has no set of morals or views that can be considered either moral or immoral, while Christianity (or any religion) does. I'll ask the same question that I asked earlier: would Ubuntu Nazi Edition be okay, as long as the contents of national socialism isn't discussed? Or Ubuntu Racism Edition? All of these ideologies contain moral guidelines - all of those moral guidelines are subjective. They are moral to some, and immoral to others. If you prohibit Nazism or Racism, while defending Christianity, then I can only assume you're not objective, and that you stand behind the actual ideology behind Christianity.

See my point? I'm not trying to discuss religion or ideologies, I'm discussing the rules, and I'm trying to make a point that allowing Christian Edition contradicts said set of rules.

I see your point, gnush. But I'm okay with the Ubuntu Christian Edition subforum being there, I guess. Doesn't get in my way.

As I said in the other thread, the sub-forum pre-dates most of the staff, and I'm not sure why it was created at the time, but we have no problem with it, as long as discussions stay on topic, and don't wander off into religion.

If a thread does wander off into discussion that goes against the forum code of conduct it gets closed just like threads in the rest of the forum.

IMO it matters little if threads or posts contain religious dogma, the heading defines the intent. As would a section labeled Ubuntu Atheist Edition.

I have no interest in either section. Only that the forums remain neutral with respect to politics and religion, as both are often based in opinion and emotion. There's plenty of other sites available for discussing these topics. But in my mind the question becomes one of ruling. For example, is it permissible to have a section for UCE and not for any other Ubuntu religious based distro?

I would question if the UCE varies so significantly that existing Ubuntu derivative or DE questions don't apply? Or, is it simply that the UCE has historically been a part of the forums (as implied)? If it's the latter, then perhaps it time to consider the perception issue - now that the forums have matured.

As for members not having a problem with the UCE, that questions if a section on any other Ubuntu religious based distro would be found unacceptable by members/staff. Logic might suggest that the forums remain neutral and not have any religious or political content or headings. They could alter the name of that section to "Religious Distros" and permit all Ubuntu religious based distros to participate. I believe there's a Ubuntu Satanic Edition that could be added. Might be a very slippery slope.
