hostapd or alternative way to create wifi hotspot for ubuntu 12.10

Hello all,

I have a wired pppoe connection, which I want to share on my smartphone and other laptops.

I installed hostapd, but it didn't work.

I got these errors:
Configuration file: hostapd.conf
nl80211: 'nl80211' generic netlink not found
Failed to initialize driver 'nl80211'

Please suggest me some alternative ways to create wifi hotspot from Ubuntu.
