I use Classic Shell start button and rarely go into Metro.

I keep coming to these forums to stay up to date on Ubuntu and Linux. For a couple of years I tolerated unity hate posts and now it is W8 hate posts. The place seems to be overrun with fanbois of something or another, more than willing to jump on anyone that disagrees with them.
Thanks for the input PaulInBHC, yeah i've been jumped on before so my skin is getting
    thicker.

Nah, don't like it at all. The UI is plain horrible.

I like Windows 8 too. For once, stop "HATE WINDOWS & APPLE" things. Discussing the pros and cons of it will be more fruitful.

    @Jay Nnib, quick questions:
Are you also using Win8 with a touchscreen?
    Mouse/trackpad?
    Classic Shell addon?

I strongly suspect that the majority of complaints re: Win8 (and probably Gnome 3 and Unity) have to do with difficulties using mouse/keyboard in interfaces designed around touch devices. As a result, I almost automatically suspect anyone claiming they really like Win8 is using (edit: Classic Shell or) a touchscreen, which is an interface device well out of my reach.

Me, I suspect my desktop hardware is insufficient for Win7, let alone 8. And I *know* my 14 year old Hitachi C751 CRT monitor won't work well with any touch interface. I can handle Unity, but I like Madbox/#! best.

I can already say,i am liking this a lot.The touchscreen was my wife's
idea and i'm glad she wanted it as i am enjoying it a lot.

Once we decided on windows 8 the criteria was, minimum i5 or equivalent
processor, touchscreen and SSD, all of which we have in this model.
I also have found Win8 to be very good OS. I am OS agnostic, use what fits best and ignore the "anti" brigade.

I really gave apple a serious look this time around, particularily the
macbook air, nearly all the computer sales people discouraged me from it as
they said, since apple no longer uses Samsung parts, the quality has come
down. Even in the tablet selection they pushed Samsung and Asus ahead of the
ipad. Maybe unfair to apple, but it did influence my descision , especially
since they are "pricey" to begin with.

It's good to see that some people really do like Windows 8. I'm glad that I don't need Windows at home, but I'm glad that it's working out for some other people.

Windows 8 feels disjointed and clunky

at least G3 and Unity feel cohesive to me.
