New install of 12.04, black screen on startup (NVIDIA)

So, I just installed 12.04. I know about editing the GRUB command to replace "quiet splash" with "nomodeset", but I was wondering if there was a more convenient way of fixing it. Also, I already edited the grub file in home/etc/default, but it's still not working.

Utilize the "nomodeset" option in the grub menu-> boot onto the desktop.
Launcher->System Settings->Additional Drivers; install the recommended driver. Reboot.
