Question ubuntu on Acer Aspire One Netbook

I see on the ubuntu support hardware site that 12.04 LTS is support on Acer Aspire One Netbook:

    http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/...tegory=Netbook

Does this mean the regular desktop version or some netbook version of 12.04 LTS?

If the regualr desktop version...how well does it run?

What specific "Acer Aspire One Netbook" are you talking about? There are many versions with different hardware.

If you have an AO751h, you can get it to work but expect a lot of hassle getting it to work. I have one of these, and it uses the Intel GMA500 chipset that has lousy driver support in Linux. I got 11.04 to work on it, mostly, but some things don't work reliably like suspend/resume. I haven't bothered with 12.04 yet on it.

No, there is no more "Netbook remix" version of Ubuntu.

If you look at the link I included, these are what is listed:

Acer Aspire One Netbook (rather general) and Acer Aspire One (A110 ZG5)

There is no netbook version of Ubuntu 12.04, only desktop and server versions. In the link you posted it says Ubuntu Desktop, so that is what this certification is valid for. The Acer Aspire One is supported "with notes" and was tested in a specific configuration, which is given in the certification description.

I have a A110 ZG5, currently run Mint 13 XFCE - but works with several distros including Lubuntu 10.04 up.
The only thing I have to modify is the fan noise hack.

I'm running 12.10 on an AOA150 with 1.5 gigs of RAM. No problems (I'm on it now) except for the fact that there's no hibernate and the suspend function sometimes doesn't work as it should.

Try making a USB stick and just run Ubuntu from that to see what happens.

    All the best,

    Bill

A little late to the party, but I set up Lubuntu 13.04 on my Aspire One yesterday with no problems. Lubuntu offers a netbook remix session that I like, but regular Lubuntu is just fine. Ubuntu 12.04 ran reasonably well on it, but Unity could get pretty slow.

Re: ubuntu on Acer Aspire One Netbook

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome shell and it works really well, i'm been unable to upgrade to Gnome shell 3.8, but 3.4 is not that bad.

    Only issues i have are:
    - display brightness doesn't dim as it used to do on 10.04 (that's why i ended up in this discussion)
    - the usual double card reader doesn't work unless you boot with a card inside.
