    Possible Virus?

    Hi,
Think my Ububtu has a virus!?
When I open Firefox the URL bar auto fills with such like ".net /nnnnn /.......n/" etc
Thinking it may be a sticky key on my keyboard I opened a new text document and couldnt replicate the problem.
I close Firefox and re-open and the same thing happens again.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Have you tried resetting the start page from preferences?

Scary... are you backed up? Do you think you downloaded any malicious files or programs?

Hardly download anything, except updates as Im a noob Linux user, and want to get 'used to Linux' before using it seriously. Not doing very well am I?
Only thing I have installed except updates is Stellarium, but I installed that months ago and have just started having this strange behaviour today.

    Re: Possible Virus?

Its a laptop and unfortunately I dont have a spare USB keyboard.
I did try opening a text document to see if I had a 'sticky key' but that failed to replicate the issue.
Ive only seen the problem with Google in firefox and now with my logon.
Im now reluctant to turn the PC back on.

PS, im accessing this forum from my Windows laptop.

"Plug in another keyboard" << I second that!
Nevermind, you don't have another keyboard. Has it been spilled on? Also can you turn off the wireless on your pc so it cannot connect in case there is something malicious on there?

Will try turning off Wireless. Dell computers, or at least this Inspiron 1720, has a handy sliding button on the side to do just that...hang on I'll let you know what happens
