Well, thanks for sharing that.
Can't say I'm surprised...

Hi Iamcmac08,
I worked with someone a few years back to connect a G3 or G4 to a Powerefile CD/DVD changer. That's about the only experience I've had with a Mac. The interface was beautiful but I had a difficult time understanding how to debug hardware and software issues. I wish I had more time to work with it to establish a better opinion.
One of the many things I like about Linux is how verbose it can be with hardware issues. I also like the dependency checking that comes with the DEB packages. The amount of software available in the repositories is impressive.
Is there something specific you like about Linux that you found missing in the Mac? Not to put you on the spot, I'm really just curious. Under normal circumstances I would just get an ISO of the Mac's OS and try it with VirtualBox but AFAIK I can't ... legally.
Thread moved to Ubuntu Testimonials & Experiences.

I just love how streamlined the GUIs are in Ubuntu. Unity is amazing to me.. I was a hardcore Mac user before I came across Unity. Always wanted to try a Linux based OS but never got the chance until now. I'm also a person that loves to customize my environment and your options are very limited on a Mac.
I don't think it matters which OS a user finds acceptable. What's important is that it works for them. IMHO every OS has it's strengths and weaknesses, the key is to use the one that best meets your needs/requirements.
Which is why I don't believe comparisons are a good idea, unless they're done under controlled conditions with predefined benchmarks. User's often come with preconceived opinions which can impact any comparison.

Comparing one freely available system that runs on just about anything to another with a very limited & expensive hardware scope is quite useful.
Challenging any philosopy is a good idea.
In my view Apple isn't going to be a complete solution for many.
Tons of inexpensive hardware that doesn't officially run OSX.
I prefer multi-platform software and hardware.
I noted that in my post.lancest
I prefer multi-platform software and hardware.
It's been my experience, that users may have significant bias and the comparison results often reflect said bias.User's often come with preconceived opinions which can impact any comparison.
I honestly believe that users vary with respect to requirements. For example, a gamer, writer or high end video editor might view the comparison differently. I haven't found any two users that have exactly the same demands and cringe when I read statements that include terms such as average or typical user. Many users may have similar basic demands (internet, e-mail, etc.), but upon investigation one might find that they have specific demands with regards to other activities.
I think philosophies matter little when a system fails to meet expectations. Individual needs and requirements are more likely to impact a comparison than a philosophy. Keeping in mind that upgrades and updates (based on a philosophy) can also alter opinion. Bottom line IMO is to use what works for you and don't waste time worrying about that which doesn't. I've learned that no OS is perfect or represents a complete solution to all users.
* Just my $0.02 and I won't post again in this thread. Have no desire to place this thread in a position of compromise (closure). Good Luck

Glad you like it!
I was desperate to get a mac for ages, but call me sad and I know I sound it, but when Steve Jobs died that spark that I thought the brand had seemed to go like I loved Windows because of Bill Gates.
I can put a Windows Logo in KDE and tell people it's windows and even with the KDE branding as they tell me how awful Linux is they get what they need to done. (pre win 8)
Most people are happy as long as they can get on the web.
Problem solved? I probably just searched the web for it.
Right. Alot of that going on today.
Linux (including Android) fits quite well there and more.
I consider Tablets, smartphones, all part of the mix.
Android has surpassed Windows in worldwide usage and will continue to skyrocket.
Expensive specialist software ain't the only game in town.
People are realizing that at different levels.
