Hello,

First thing: in a terminal do
and post the output of that here so that people can see exactly what sort of device you are dealing with.Code:lsusb
Michael
that is because you need the dial number, username and password for your ISP. call them to tell you this and try to setup connection manually from network manager. what isp do you have and what kind of modem are we talking about?
now, i have had an older modem witch only worked with wvdial.
now....put the output of lsusb
Thanks for your response. Output of lsusb:
I've already tried stting up the connection manually with username, password and number, but connection fails.Code:Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1a2c:0027 Bus 002 Device 004: ID 19d2:fff1 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM
Hi. Can you say for sure that this
is your device? Or that it isn't?Code:Bus 002 Device 004: ID 19d2:fff1 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM
Michael
Try it without a username and password. None of my 3g devices have ever needed it.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
Have a look here, particularly at the step immediatly after selecting "add" where the author describes selecting the type of modem.
I don't recall having to make that selection when setting up my Hauwei stick, but maybe that could help you.

Also, tell us which version of Ubuntu you are using. That might be relevant...
Michael
would you like to try wvdial?
it is not that hard...

go to alternative way 1.
and also, install wvdial.
if wvdial doesn't see your modem, try to use setserial.

Go to the site which the modem is from and see if there are drivers or to see if there's information on how to set it up.
