Didn't this thread have an original OP?
Somehow a pricing guide isn't much of a comparison.

Although, I am reading Steve Jobs the biography so maybe I'm suffering from reality distortion and only think I remember a different OP.

But for my 2 cents, They're both operating systems.
    Nuff said.

100 dollars is a fairly trivial amount considering each Windows version will give you years of updates, the benefits of Ubuntu go beyond cost.

    Let me see.....

    Raspberry Pi: $35
    Core i5 PC: $1,199

But it's not a good comparison because there are advantages and disadvantages to each. Raspi gives you low power use, extreme portability and ability to easily hack around with GPIO. The Core i5 gives you great performance for general-purpose computing tasks.

Ubuntu is free, stable, hackable and easy to use compared to Windows. Windows has compatibility with an extensive range of professional-level software, plus AAA-games.

You can only compare Ubuntu to Windows 8 for cost, if your needs can be served by either platform.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
