    Is UF less busy?

A few years ago I was a lot more active here but due to becoming both self-employed and a college student, I didn't have time to continue constant activity here. Now, coming back, it seems almost dead. What happened?

While some of the activity has shifted elsewhere, the "almost dead" silliness is a major overstatement.
I think the main reason is an alternative, http://askubuntu.com/.

I assumed that the majority of the missing users had left due to lack of interest in the direction Ubuntu was taking, or the reasonably restrictive set of posting guidelines enforced here.

I post on a lot of different forums, with a lot of different subject matters. Forums are becoming less popular as a whole. I put it down to the rise of Facebook, Twitter and Google+. People are still wanting to communicate on the web, but how they are doing it is changing.

Explains everything! Burn it with fire!

But in reality, I hope it dies out and people come back here.

    Possibly. I hope not though.

    Thread moved to Recurring Discussions.

Makes sense to me the easier a system becomes less assistance on-line will be needed...

I kinda think you hit the nail on the head here...

the Internet used to be all about chat rooms, things moved onto forums.... now they've moved again to social... and it seems facebook has.... capitalized on that resource.

TBH these are the busiest forums I know of anywhere...

also don't forget there are manu ubuntu help avenues... askubuntu, launchpad questions, irc.... these forums

About 20 years ago Usenet was THE thing, but now I have yet to find a single person who still use it.
