    New to ubuntu and linux

    Hi all

I have this question about streaming video to my HD TV and old laptop. I have a sony P3 laptop with 512 gb ram and 120 gb hard disk. I was wondering. will i be able to install (i havent try it yet) ubuntu 12.10 and run some of the video streaming program with this old laptop?? any recommendation? or should i use an older ubuntu version since my laptop is too old? Please advise

    Thx again.

Lubuntu 12.04 would be your best bet, but if the video streaming involves the Adobe Flash plugin, then just forget about it (your CPU is too slow).

It would have to be 12.04, since xubuntu 12.10 uses pae kernel: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/05/how-t...n-non-pae.html

Yep, P3. Forgot about that. Wonder if "Puppy Linux" would even be a better choice for that box.

Try bodhi linux, should work on that old hardware, has Ubuntu as its base and you will still have access to the Ubuntu repos.

My machine has around the same hardware specs, with Ubuntu 12.04 it runs all applications I've tried just fine. So unless your older machine is ridiculously underpowered, the version of Ubuntu shouldn't matter too much.

    Good luck!
