ubuntu 12.10 has trouble with gpu ddr5 ??

this is a clean install not a upgrade {dual boot with vista}

ubuntu 12.10 has trouble with gpu ddr5 ??
i could not get 12.10 to boot upto login screen
using my nvidia gt240 ddr5 1gb video card
it said more than this but this is what i wrote down {drm noveau gpu lockup}
so i switched it out for a nvidia 6800 ddr3 512mb
now it boots just fine, but is there a fix for the nvidia gt240 ddr5 1gb video card
