Hi,
I have downloaded the iso file for 12.10
I checked the md5 in Terminal (md5sum) and got the response: input/output error.
I assume that I need to re-download the file
Am I correct.
Thanks

Not sure what is the exact error you are getting, but still if the checksum does not match it is sensible to do a fresh download.

Thank you for responding.
I did not get an error message or the digest.
I just got the message md5sum input/output error.
Best wishes.

Ps. Do you know if I can create a bootable pendrive when running lubuntu 12.04 from another pendrive. If so, what program should I use in lubuntu
PPS. I will not do this until I am sure that my iso file is correct.

I believe it is technically possible, but why don't you create it from the OS that you have on your computer? In any event see this site:Do you know if I can create a bootable pendrive when running lubuntu 12.04 from another pendrive. If so, what program should I use in lubuntu

I have used UNetbootin to create my live flash drives.

The Vista OS on my pc is not working.
At present, I am using Lubuntu from a USB stick
'Jaunty (9.04) onwards provide USB Startup Disk Creator system tool. It uses the usb-creator to create USB bootable startup disk on USB drive.'
I don't see to have this facility in Lubuntu 12.04

Why don't you install Lubuntu to your hard drive. The you wouldn't have to worry about a dead OS on your computer taking up good space. Alternatively, if you plan on fixing Vista, set up a dual boot.
Start-up disk creator is in the repositories and can be downloaded and used if you like
