    Re: HOWTO: Hoary ClearType-like fonts

    Hello.

I've followed the guide step by step. My results are pretty good. However, I have noticed that in many areas my font seems like it's squishing together as you can see in the attached screenshot.

    Help please.
    Thanks in advance,

    Re: HOWTO: Hoary ClearType-like fonts

I'm new to linux and ubuntu. I don't know the difference between gnome and kde. I didn't even know that my ubuntu is breezy until yesterday.

I don't care if ubuntu does not look like windows. I decided to use it and i did not expect it to be a clone of windows but it sure would be nice to have the varied selection of fonts that i enjoyed in windows, especially for my graphic works. Is there a way we can add to the current selection that is pre-loaded with ubuntu?

It looks pretty but... now I get
    Code:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:

when running javaws applications. Some of them work up to a point and, before they crash, give this warning:
    Code:
usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:49: Engine "clearlooks" is unsupported, ignoring
I'm not sure if this warning was also present before (since I never bothered to trace/log the execution of javaws applications).

Any idea what exactly should I roll back?

It seems it is a bug in java 1.5.

    Re: HOWTO: Hoary ClearType-like fonts

I used this HOWTO with great success on Ubuntu 5.04. Never had such
clear and crispy fonts on Linux! I cannot thank the author enough for
    providing such a good document.

... Until I upgraded to Breezy. Tahoma is degraded just enough to make
it hard to read after 5 minutes, Firefox renders unreadable pages, fixed
fonts look Ok but most have changed sizes (I must now use 12 where
I used 10 or sth equivalent). The best I could do so far is delete
/etc/fonts/local.conf and set the screen resolution in Gnome fonts to 92dpi
(xorg being configured for 96 as described in the Howto).

Now it is not so bad but still hard for the eyes. Pity.

    Re: HOWTO: Hoary ClearType-like fonts

i just installed tahoma on a fresh breezy following this guide. and all works just well, however i skipped step 1 like i always do

for some reason the bitstream vera sans fonts became f*cked up after doing this, but the font called just 'sans' (which i think must be identical to bitstram vera sans) work like before..strange
