What version of windows do you use? I need to have Windows running for MS Office (not a matter of choice, I prefer libreoffice) and Photoshop (again, I prefer GIMP).
Is there a reason why to stick with XP and not go with 7? Assuming I have decent hardware.
I'm asking since whenever I find someone virtualising windows, they go with XP.

I don't think it will really make a difference other than version requirements of the software you have to use.
Ubuntu addict and loving it
I have virtualized Win7 guests on a couple of different machines with Ubuntu and VirtualBox. It runs fine.
Maybe you see WinXP more often because more people have licensed installation discs for that version?
I give Win7 1.5 GB on machines with 4+ GB of memory. Seems adequate.

If you have the choice and your hardware is up to it, go Windows 7. XP won't be supported that much longer, and you can get more up-to-date software on 7.
Always make regular backups of your data (and test them).

I am on a Windows 7 Guest on an Ubuntu host (Lucid) now. In fact I have always run Win7 on Vbox and VMware without issue. You should be fine.
