Thank you for your hard work and i agree GNOME still has quite a few followers and Ubuntu currently still is GNOME based distro in my opinion. GNOME will have to rethink some stuff about GnomeShell:

Because there are no big players backing it up (stock GnomeShell) ATM anymore and then i think it will become more popular again and if that happens things will get a bit easier again!

Just to pick one example, Nautilus 3.8 hasn't landed in Saucy yet and there are two remaining issues:
1. Concerns about the new Nautilus affecting desktop drawing in Unity (I don't think any developers really care about Metacity). That needs more investigation and testing to find out what specific scenarios work and don't work with Nautilus 3.6 and then with Nautilus 3.8. No one has volunteered to do that.
2. The Ubuntu developers and designers would like for there to be a nice New Document entry in the right-click menu.

The main issue here with 3.8 is that the unity7/compiz & file manager not handling the Desktop compo is not presentable, no good at all
If the 'fix' is coming from the compiz side, well it would be ok when/if it happens.
(with or without Desktop icons though sure many that use a desktop like to have a Desktop to put things on

Otherwise could be easier to keep & if needed fix 3.6 till Ubuntu dumps compiz

I can understand your decision, but i'll miss your enthusiasm and skills.
I respect all Tim's hard work for Ubuntu-Gnome but it will not be the same without your input.

In one of the earlier Ubuntu releases ( I think it was 5.10 or 6.06 ) "Ubuntu" was explained in a video by Nelson Mandela

Been using KDE for about 3 weeks, haven't used KDE since 3.5 That being said I feel a hook setting in!
