^^ I didn't notice there were 3.9 packages in the staging PPA, whoops -- OK then in that case I'll do without it... (Could swear I checked that though -- will go back and look again.)

Looks like the "can be safely removed" is not yet true

For the record, adding the staging PPA did NOT upgrade me to 3.9 -- not sure if that was your implied message or not, but in case anyone else read it that way I wanted to point it out.

It also didn't fix my user switching problem, but made it a more graceful failure (I get thrown back to GDM instead of into a gnome-shell-less session that forces me to reboot from tty.)

It did give me the privacy settings tile though, and likely other improvements that haven't jumped out at me...

I show 150 extensions available for 3.9.0-6-generic, including the ones I use most. I thought the version dependent extensions were fixed in 3.8 so they didn't have to be modified for each version. The only one I'm missing is All in One Places.

    hey kurt,
in case you were not fully awaken, we were talking about gnome-shell, not about the kernel
and for those not finding GS 3.9, its from ricotz testing of course.

I think we've maybe been talking past each other. I never wanted 3.9. I was concerned about any known issues adding the staging PPA (as opposed to just the Gnome3 PPA).

    Already had this one:
    https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3/

Was asking on P41 about adding this one:
    https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+...gnome3-staging

I thought this would be the right thread for that, given the title.

all these now mainly have "copy from saucy", so they are useless with saucy and JB have stopped its work there too.
