Can only log in to Minecraft using Magic Launcher?

This makes no sense at all. I'm using the same exact username and password for both the default Minecraft launcher and Magic Launcher. Magic Launcher logs in immediately and regular Minecraft launcher immediately says "can't connect to minecraft.net".
I was trying to log in using the regular Minecraft launcher so i could update to 1.4.6 from 1.4.2 but i guess that's not happening.

Logging in with my web browser worked for me as well and i did succesfully update but i still would like to know why the minecraft launcher can't just log into minecraft.net like it's supposed to

I can log in just fine.
Maybe you should try to re-download the Minecraft launcher, and then see if you can log in with it. Also, have you done anything to your Minecraft launcher?

Re-downloading worked for me. I didn't do anything to the launcher or anything besides copy it and put it in another folder. Opening both the old and the new launcher with archive manager I did not see any difference between the two files.

Maybe your original launcher got corrupted or something...

Can you connect to minecraft.net on your internet browser?

sometimes the problem is that the server is down for developing or configuring the game/website.

I have also found a way to [sometimes] troubleshoot it;
Log in to offline mode

Log out

Restart it again, log in to online, it should work.

You can also just reinstall your minecraft launcher, simple enough.
