Win7 does not HAVE to be the first partition on the drive, so to install it, you should boot from a LiveCD or LiveUSB of Ubuntu and use GParted to shrink down the Linux partition to leave room for Win7. I would recommend a minimum of 40GB for Win7.
Also, you can use GParted to format the new partition as NTFS, but if you do that, use the option in Win7 to REFORMAT that same partition. Win7 works best if it formats its partition.
After you install Win7, as mentioned, it will overwrite the MBR, so you will then have to reboot using the LiveCD or LiveUSB of Ubuntu and reinstall GRUB to the MBR.
