    Yahoo Chess

    Hey everyone,

    I like a good game of chess and have as a Windows user used Yahoo Chess, but Linux, specifically Ubuntu 12.04, does not seem to want to load the board on Yahoo Chess. I suspect it is a Java problem, but cannot say for sure. I'm using firefox.

    Can anyone offer a solution or suggest a similar forum for chess on Linux?

    Thanks as always.

    A client like pychess which you can download from the Software Centre and an account at freechess.org maybe ?

    Chess is the one reason I maintain a Windows VM, running Fritz to connect to playchess.com.

    Hi ,

    can you give here the link ? Because it seems that Yahoo have lot of Chess Board Games.
    I tested 1-2 and worked, but was "Flash Chess" .

    If is Flash Chess the game you want to play , see if adobe-flashplayer is installed. I used Firefox too.

    Have you installed the restricted-extras package ? (flash player included).

    Open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and give this command
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
    write your password carefully (because nothing will appear , like you don't write anything) and hit [Enter].
    After installation finish , re-load Firefox and try again.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the advice. I looked at java and that wasn't it so I went with the virtual windows option and it looks like it'll work great.

    Thanks.

    Re: Yahoo Chess

    For chess on Linux:

    1) Free Internet Chess Server - http://www.freechess.org
    Register there, download one of the graphical interfaces, or get Raptor chess interface - https://code.google.com/p/raptor-chess-interface, learn how to use it and play;

    2) Play on http://www.chess.com, no need to download anything;

    3) Many other variations.

    Yahoo chess is the last one to go to play chess, not good for any more or less serious play.
