    Red face dificulty starting kubuntu

    hi,

i have used ubuntu for manay years. i am trying to switch to kubuntu.

i have installed it on the machine that used to run ubuntu with no problem.

i am encountering allot of glitches such as bluetooth mouse and keyboard that will not pair correctly but they did on ubuntu.

and otherwise many (none) of the utilities shown on the desktop seem to function properly.

can you tell me what i am missing or overlooking to get things started please?

    thank you.

dell netbook circa 2k8. 1.8GHz 32-bit atom processor, 2Gb memory, 30Gb SDD, built in WIFI, Bluetooth.

i think that is everything relevant.

    please advise.

Your machine should run it fine. What kind of graphics card do you have?
It might just be a bad install. Download the .iso again, check the md5 sum, reburn it and try again. If it still doesnt work, open up System Settings > Desktop Effects and try to disable some of them. They can slow down a system and that might explain why some of the desktop utilities arent working properly.

    whatthefunk,

i am not sure what graphics card i have but i am thinking it's a proprietary dell card. this machine did ship with ubuntu oem. and it has only run ever run ubuntu.

i have never had problems running ubuntu with it.

after running the updates the bluetooth utility does seem to be handling my apple mighty mouse correctly now but it will not pair with my full-sized apple keyboard.

i am willing to concede that because i am new with the kubuntu desktop it may be i find it awkward compared to unity? it seems to be a sort of transpose of the suse desktop.

anyway i am going to mark this ticket resolved and start a new one to address the bluetooth issue. divide and conquor you know,,,

thank you for your help sir.

    following up one more time.

now that i am getting the hang of plasma i see that my inital concerns were due to lack of experience with the plasma desktop.

it is the most advanced i have ever used. i am pleased and very impressed with it. i've no reason to believe there is an error with my .iso but i am going to look into this.

thank you again for your help.
