Can my laptop support Ubuntu 12.10?

Hi, I am new to Ubuntu and I would like to give Ubuntu 12.10 a try on my laptop. I am using an Acer Aspire 4530 laptop with the following specs:

AMD Turion X2 Dual Core processor 2.10GHz
    3GB RAM
    NVidia GeForce 9100MG GPU

I am thinking of replacing my current Windows Vista OS(32-bit) with Ubuntu, so will it slow down my laptop? What type of hardware issues will I face after installing Ubuntu?

    Thanks.

The minimum memory requirement for Ubuntu 12.10 is 768 MB of RAM and 5 GB of disk space for Ubuntu Desktop.

Your system won't slow down when you install Ubuntu, you can even try it out without installation using the Live DVD/USB and check whether it works as expected on your system.

How about hardware issues for ubuntu 12.10?(WLAN,graphics,etc)
I have a 160GB HDD which is partitioned into two drives. I am planning to install ubuntu into the second partition because I have my Windows Vista installed on the first partition and there are some files which can only be opened in a Windows environment. How do I set Ubuntu to be installed on the second partition without deleting my files?
    Thanks

    It's already explained above:

try it out without installation using the Live DVD/USB.

Don't use this space for a list of your hardware. It only creates false hits in the search engines.

Probably no issues with a laptop of that vintage. Try the live session from the DVD to be sure. The graphics will work.

You can tell the Ubuntu installer which partition to erase and install into. It brings up a screen where you can choose.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
