    Question Linux friendly GPS?

I am looking into getting a dedicated GPS device so I do not have to use my phone to help me find directions to places I need to go. I want one that will allow me to sync the information on it so that it can get new locations. From what I've been reading, some GPS devices by companeies like TomTom do not work well in Linux. I would prefer not to have to use workarounds like VirtualBox and WINE to use it either, but I'm willing to consider that if there's no way around it. Which one would you guys recommend? Ideally, I would like for it to be less than 200 US dollars.

    OS: Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit

Not sure if it can be done, but can this topic be moved to the Absolute Beginners section?
