    Top and left side menu blackened out in ubuntu 12.1 vm on vmware

    Please check the attached the screenshot.

    The top menu and the left-hand side menu bar are missing for me.

    Why is this the case? whats casuing these menus to not appear?

    Any help is appreciated.

    found the solution:
    1. Go into the VM settings and turn off the Accelerate 3D Graphics option and see if that makes a difference.
    2. Install VMware Tools on the VM.
